Beauty-The Engulfing Truth

What do we exactly mean when we say that the place is really beautiful?
Are we just referring to the scenic beauty of the place or are we referring to the full package…. The package, which is made up of the scenery, the cleanliness and many more things taken together. I feel that when it comes to the beauty it is the full package that we are talking about. And if this is true then I am really sorry to say that even after being so very beautiful Panjim is one of the ugliest place one can ever visit. And it is not because of anything lacking in its beauty but it is because the people who were suppose to be caretakers of Goa are busy taking care of themselves ignoring their duty towards Panjim the capital of Goa and this may be true with other places too.
Have you recently traveled from Bambolim to Panajim? I am sure that the answer will be yes. And if the answer is yes you people will be knowing what is coming next…
Yes you are right I am talking about the putrid odor that engulfs you just before entering the heart of the city. You can count yourself lucky if you have chosen NH 17 highway to enter the city and not through Santacruz, as the intensity of this odor at NH 17 is not as bad as that around some parts of Rua-de-ourem (specially around Sona Hotel)
The reason of this odor is the dumping ground. Yes a dumping ground. Have you ever heard about a dumping ground just at the outskirts of a capital or can we really call it the outskirts?
As I write this article I know that many of you are thinking on the same lines and believe me many have thought and tried to make deaf hear regarding this topic even before me, but looks like it didn’t work. This article of mine is a small effort towards the same cause.
Because just like you all, I am also tired of wincing my nose or trying to stop breathing for a moment or two until I cross the area. But at least we who are suppose to pass by that area can actually just wince and let it pass. But what about the people who have to work in that area, what about the school going children?? And if this was a matter of one or two days it might have been considered. But this looks like an everlasting problem. I myself am facing this problem for last couple of months to be precise this problem started even before last years IFFI celebrations I was just wondering that how come our government was in position of hosting such a event in Panjim itself, inviting V.I.P’s without actually sparing a single thought on this issue. Or were they just focusing on the V.I.P’s who would be traveling in their air conditioned cars without getting affected by this stinking environment? Oh! Exactly here lies the main cause the air conditioned cars, don’t you think so? This honorable ministers of ours travel in their air conditioned cars without being effected by anything and thereby don’t try to do anything to improve the situation. But what about the other tourists who cometo visit Goa and mind you dont travel in a.c car, What is the message that we want to pass to the world is it that Goa stinks big time is it so?It’s a high time now for Goa Goverment to start thinking about others and specially start thinking about Goa. I would like to make a request to Goan government to take some proper action in this matter and here let me clear that I am not talking about temporary measures like shifting this dumping grounds but talking about something permanent like recycling units and also take actions regarding keeping the Panjim Bus stand and its surrounding clean and thereby help Panjim in enhancing its Beauty.
